If trees could whisper, what would they say
Would they preach loudly or whisper gently
Stories of the past and worries they’ve had
Would they tell us that we all must grow
And concerns of age should never bring us down
“Be happy,” they’d say
“For we were once just a seed that grew
One day you will be something mighty
So never cut anyone down”
“Our roots hold us here
As we stand our ground
Never to forget to remember
The seasons we’ve shared”
Possibly we would sense sorrow in their tone
For each year they lose their leaves
“We have no secrets,” they’d say
“Nothing to be hidden, completely exposed”
And each overcomes their flaws
Crooked branches and broken limbs
Then their sorrow would reveal a secret
Only known to wise
And if you are lucky perhaps the trees would let you know
Just how it is they continue to grow.
